Samia Islam Farzana , a 21-year-old student at Government Titumir College in Bangladesh, once appeared destined for a remarkable future. Personally selected by Mr. M. Shaker, founder of the Shaker International Scholarship Programs ( SISP ), she was appointed as the organization’s ambassador—a symbol of hope for young Muslim women around the globe. She was not only granted access to education and mentorship but also provided with a powerful platform to rise above poverty and become a figure of leadership and inspiration.
Yet behind this promising image, a heartbreaking betrayal was quietly unfolding.
In a stunning twist, Samia—together with her secret partner, Shahed Anwar Shadhin , another SISP -sponsored work/study student—executed a series of actions that rocked the foundation of the very organization that believed in them. What was once seen as a story of empowerment has now transformed into a shocking example of deception, greed, and betrayal.
The accusations against them are severe: large-scale financial fraud, theft of organizational resources, and cybercrimes targeting businesses in the United States. These offenses have triggered multiple international investigations. In Bangladesh alone, four serious legal cases have been filed against Samia, Shahed, and their family members. Authorities in Bangladesh, the FBI, and Interpol are all actively involved in probing the case.
Adding to the pain is the revelation of Samia’s undeserved financial gains during her 14-month tenure at SISP . Despite failing to complete any major task successfully, she somehow earned up to 25 times more than her expected monthly salary—money that was meant for charitable work. Thousands of dollars in gifts and bonuses were given to her by Mr. Shaker and SISP in good faith. But behind closed doors, she was allegedly collaborating with her boyfriend Shahed (a student of Adamjee Cantonment College), her sister Jannatul Ferdous Fareha (from Lalmatia Government Mohila College), and even their parents to carry out a long-planned criminal agenda.
In December 2024, Samia’s sister, Fareha, allegedly staged a robbery against SISP , based on a false narrative concocted by the family. It was later discovered that this incident was orchestrated with full knowledge and involvement of Samia's parents.
Reflecting on the betrayal, Mr. Shaker stated, "When the people of Bangladesh realize what I sacrificed for Samia—and how she repaid that trust—they will feel deep national shame."
It was Mr. Shaker and the SISP organization that finally exposed Samia Islam Farzana and her criminal boyfriend. He vowed that the names of Samia, Shahed, and their parents would forever be remembered for what they did. In June 2025, more than 22 of Bangladesh’s leading news outlets reported their crimes. By July 2025, over 200 international media agencies had published their story and shared their photos—including some of the world’s most visited news platforms, with audiences exceeding 150 million readers each month.
What started as a journey of hope and transformation has ended in one of the most devastating betrayals in the realm of youth empowerment.
